(Okay, so it's been over a month since my last post. I'm sorry. But this contest will definitely make up for it. I've got a lot more coming up, too!)
I LOVE VH1's The Pickup Artist. I really do. I've seen both seasons one and two, and am ready for a season three. Can you imagine my surprise when I showed up as a background actor to the set of independent film, 'In World War' and recognized the most recent winner of one of my most favorite reality shows, ever? (Other favorite reality shows include Millionaire Matchmaker, the first season of Making the Band and Project Runway, of course.) Can you imagine my glee when I noticed that he was also sporting a pretty decent man purse? I was bit overcome, really.
I'm fairly new to this background acting thing and didn't expect to recognize anyone remotely recognizable in this local production, and I just didn't have a plan for how to react for such a double whammy. So I chilled out a bit, and just took some time to make sure that it was really Simeon from 'The Pickup Artist Season 2' (it was.) And I thought to myself, how random that just a few weeks ago I was watching him win this reality show on TV (well, on the iMac since we hardly ever watch things on the TV anymore) and now here he was standing in front of me. I kept thinking to myself, 'Is he going to try and pickup on someone HERE?', 'Is he going to be totally different in person, than from the show?', 'Should I tell him that I recognize him?', 'Will I get an opportunity to interview him for the blog?'
After finally chatting a bit with him during a break, I decided to buck up and ask him for an interview. What other opportunity would I get to find out what a real live pickup artist carries on his seductive self? The possibilities were limitless. He enthusiastically obliged and actually made ME guess what was in his man purse before he would show me what was in it. I've never been asked to do that, actually. Well, let me tell you that Simeon is a very unique guy and even with my experience in unraveling the surprising mysteries of men's murses, I didn't actually do very well with my guesses.

That is so amazing! I seriously think about the end of PUA Season 2 where Simeon is hugging Matt and tells him "you're my best friend," like, EVERY week!
OK, here's what I think is in his Man Purse:
1) A mix-tape CD of mood songs, for those tender kino-escalating moments.
2) A marine vehicle license, keys to a houseboat, or something that helps facilitate life off the land.
3) A book of daguerreotypes of Mustaches of the Nineteenth Century, as a reference guide (http://mustachesofthenineteenthcentury.blogspot.com/).
4) A copy of "Dirty Dancing."
5) A compact but potent grab bag of top hats, colored goggles, and fuzzy boas.

To answer Aaron M, yes I posted the URL on Simeon's facebook wall. I wonder if there IS a pickup artist CD? If it exists, I hope it sounds somewhat similar to the background music in Fabio's sexy CD. Lots of saxophones, y'know?
In Simeon's man purse he must have a lab top, a book, his script for "In World's War" and probably his wallet(Unless he had that in his pants pocket that day)!
I gotta say, I'm at a loss on Simeon. I haven't watched "The Pickup Artist", but the post reminds me of the disconcerting talk of seduction classes from Penny Arcade the other day.
But since I don't know Simeon's television work, I get the instinct he carries scripts for plays he's supposed to be auditioning for-- and a towel. I could believe he's from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse. (Is this the second Hitchhiker's Guide reference I've made on WIYMP?)
His murse also carries a stack of buisness cards for agents, because he's trying to capitalize on his reality show fame. Prophylactics. And a yarmulke.
And yarmulke-shaped prophylactics.
I haven't seen this season of the Pickup Artist so I will have to guess.

Okay, so as a tangent: can someone explain some things? I went to VH1's website for PUA, and I couldn't go any farther than the picture of a guy in a fur hat, eyeliner, and a lipstick tattoo on his neck(!) And the word that immediately came to mind was "rapey."
To wit: I don't want to know who this guy is (I'm pretty sure it's Howie Mandell), but what's with the lips tattoo? I've seen other guys sporting this on their necks (and sometimes chests, and I doubt there are that many readers of "Stranger in a Strange Land"), so what doe sit mean? What tribe is this the membership marking for?
Oh Bri Glei, that's the magic - The tribe is a clever band of pickup artists. They are not rapey, but seductive. They teach and learn techniques for becoming confident and charming men for the purpose of a more effective romantic and social life. Watch an episode (type "watch pickup artist") and witness for yourself the power of peacocking, negging, kino-escalation, demonstrations of higher value, etc.
Well actually I can fly to another part of the globe for quite a long time with my Nokia N97 and only myself.. then buy all the stuff at destination :)
